About West End Hockey League

The West End Hockey League is committed to creating a hockey program for youth that is fun, where participants can develop and learn the technique and skills of the game, life skills, and good sportsmanship in a safe environment.

The West End Hockey League (WEHL) offers non body contact (no checking) recreational ice hockey as part of the Bytown District , a house-level league which includes the following leagues:

The Bytown Minor Hockey League operates within Hockey Eastern Ontario (formerly Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association, ODMHA), under the guidance of Hockey Canada.

The WEHL offers a core program for players from age 4 (Initiation Program) to 17 (Midget) with no contact at all levels. We also offer a "Junior Recreation" (Juvenile) and "Senior Recreation" league for those players old than 17. Players must live within the boundaries of the WEHL catchment area to participate in WEHL programs. To determine if you live within WEHL boundaries, enter your address in the HEO's Address Lookup Tool.

Within the West End Hockey League catchment area, competitive hockey is available with the following teams:

Those players in the WEHL catchment area wishing to try out for competitive hockey must register and pay with the WEHL first so that a spot in house league will be reserved should the tryouts prove unsuccessful. More importantly, as players are not insured unless they have paid and registered with their home associations, they may not participate in competitive tryout activities until they are registered with the WEHL. In addition to registering with WEHL, players wishing to try out for competitive teams must also register and pay with each competitive association.

Players from outside of the WEHL catchment area will be allowed to participate in West End Hockey League programs only if sufficient space exits following WEHL-area player registration. Players residing outside of the WEHL catchment area are considered out-of-district and must apply to the ODMHA for a Player Transfer in order to register with WEHL.

The West End Hockey League is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 13 Executive members who are elected by the membership for a period of 2 years. The day to day operations of the association is handled by the Board of Directors, in addition to appointed Convenors and other volunteers. More information about the roles and responsibilities of each position can be found in our Constitution.
