Thank you for your interest in coaching a West End Hockey League (WEHL) team!

Whether you are interested in volunteering as a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach, here is some helpful information to get you started.

Certification

All volunteers are required to have proper training and certification.

Vulnerable Sector Check

Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

All volunteers must have a valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

WEHL Code of Conduct

All volunteers must agree to the WEHL's Code of Conduct.

Head Coach Application

Head Coaches must apply for the position (details below).

Head Coach

  • Organizes all on-ice activities for games and practices.
  • Provides guidance to the team Manager for the coordination of off-ice activities.
  • Questions about the role and responsibilities of a Head Coach can be sent to VP Administration.

HEO Resources

Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) provides various resources for coaches, including tools for planning practices and games. These resources and more are available on the Hockey Eastern Ontario website.

Bench Staff Meeting

At the start of every season, the WEHL hosts a Bench Staff meeting for all team volunteers: coaches, managers, trainers, on-ice helpers, etc. A copy of the presentation slides from the most recent meeting can be found below. The presentation serves as a useful guide to reference throughout the year and to share with your team volunteers.

Player Affiliations

Coaches may affiliate a player from another team to fill in for a missing player on their team. Information about player affiliations can be found here.
