If you are planning to volunteer with the WEHL this 2025-26 season, please note that a new Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) process is now in effect:

  • VSCs from 2022 or earlier are no longer valid, effective August 15, 2025.
  • Only VSCs dated 2023 or later will be accepted.
  • Everyone (no exception) must complete the new Hockey Eastern Ontario’s (HEO) annual online declaration.
  • Anyone missing a valid VSC and/or their declaration cannot be rostered onto a team.

What you need to do

  1. If your VSC is from 2022 or earlier, get a new VSC immediately (contact VP Risk & Safety in advance to obtain a letter that waives the Ottawa Police fee).
  2. If you have a valid VSC (from 2023 or later) or once you receive your new VSC, complete HEOs’ online declaration . Moving forward, a declaration must be submitted on an annual basis.
  3. If you have never volunteered with the WEHL but plan to this upcoming season, contact our Registrar ASAP with your full name, date of birth and address. Our Registrar will need to verify and/or setup your Hockey Canada Registration (HCR) account.
